The first book in English about Japan’s modern master of fear and horror, this portrait follows Kurosawa from his humble beginning in the pink film industry through his evolution into a masterful yakuza movie director and the celebrated filmmaker of Cure, Pulse, and Loft. Included are essays on 25 films, a descriptive filmography, and a sit-down interview. A regular contributor to Asian Cult Cinema, Jerry White has written about everything from the history of the Ju-on (The Grudge) franchise to the current state of Taiwanese film. Mr. White has also written several award-winning short films, including Duel at Red Table and Misfortune Cookie. He received an MFA from Emerson College where he has taught on Asian film. |
