Submission Guidelines for Stone Bridge Press

General guidelines for submitting proposals and manuscripts to Stone Bridge Press are listed below. These guidelines may not apply to every project; please use your best judgment as to which items are appropriate to include with your submission. If there is any question as to the suitability of your book for Stone Bridge Press, please consider sending us a detailed letter of inquiry first.
If you want to make an electronic submission via e-mail, read this important information first!

IMPORTANT: Stone Bridge Press original fiction or poetry manuscripts for review.

Proposals for publication ideally should include items from the following checklist:

___1  A one-page cover letter summarizing what the book is, who it's for, and why it's useful, important, necessary, or unique.

___2  An expanded table of contents, chapter by chapter with summaries. Indicate what will be included in the front- and backmatter (introduction, preface, bibliography, glossary, index, etc.).

___3  For fiction or translation, at least two sample chapters. For non-fiction, an introduction and one sample chapter, or two sample chapters.

___4  Estimated manuscript length and completion date (if it's still incomplete). Indicate how the manuscript is being prepared (typewriter? word processor? If you're using a computer, what platform and what program?).

___5  Number of illustrations and what kind (line drawings, black and white photographs, color, etc.). Are there any special production requirements? Please provide representative samples so we can judge for quality: use high-grade photocopies for samples of line drawings, glossy prints for black and white photos, and transparencies for color photos (always send dupes, not originals, unless requested otherwise).

___6  Information about you. Include a c.v. if you have one, and indicate your qualifications to write on your subject.

___7  A discussion of the size of the market for your book and how the book compares to its competition. What makes it different/better? What are you prepared to do to promote the book (very important!)? Do you know others in your field who will provide reviews or testimonials?

___8  Your financial and scheduling requirements, if any.

Mail your submission to P.O. Box 8208, Berkeley, CA 94707.

IMPORTANT!!!!
If you require a certificate of delivery or are using Express Mail or a delivery service like UPS, DO NOT USE THE POST OFFICE BOX ADDRESS AND MAKE THE EDITOR STAND IN LINE; instead PLEASE use our street address: 1393 Solano Avenue, Suite C, Albany, CA 94706.

ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS: In principle we support use of the Internet for correspondence and submissions. However, we do NOT accept attachments from people unknown to us. So if you've got an idea you think we might be interested in, send a simple email query to us first. If you want us to see some of your work, embed a short sample within your e-mail message (that is, do not include it as an attachment). Detailed proposals with supporting information are welcome. If we do invite you to send an attached manuscript sample, you should send it as either ASCII text or as MS Word. WordPerfect? Send all electronics submissions to The Editors.

Please note that we are primarily interested in books with a Japan/Asia
connection (however tenuous). If you have genre fiction, like science fiction, war stories, mysteries, and romances, or commercial fiction, you probably shouldn't be talking to us at all. (We are no longer accepting original fiction or poetry manuscripts for review.)

No materials can be returned to you unless you provide us with sufficient return postage.

Thanks for writing. We look forward to hearing from you.
